Auditions for Princess Ida, the show for May 2025, will be held in Wroxham Church Hall on Sunday 10 November.

There will be sing-throughs on Tuesdays 29 October and 5 November in Wroxham Church Hall.

King Hildebrand’s young son. Juvenile lead. Charming, romantic and heroic lover. Some lovely comedy in Act II. (HILARION, CYRIL AND FLORIAN MUST HAVE A GREAT RAPPORT WITH EACH OTHER - AND THE AUDIENCE - IN THE ACT II TRIOS).

Hilarion’s young friend. Second juvenile lead. The extrovert comedian of the trio, charming and light-hearted. Very much a flirtatious “ladies man”. (HILARION, CYRIL AND FLORIAN MUST HAVE A GREAT RAPPORT WITH EACH OTHER - AND THE AUDIENCE - IN THE ACT II TRIOS).

Hilarion’s young friend. Attractive and charming. Brother of Lady Psyche. Lovely romantic role with some nice comedy. (HILARION, CYRIL AND FLORIAN MUST HAVE A GREAT RAPPORT WITH EACH OTHER - AND THE AUDIENCE - IN THE ACT II TRIOS).

Princess Ida’s father. Unpleasant, embittered and deformed old man – “a twisted monster, all awry”. Splendid opportunities for character work. (Does not appear in Act II).

Princess Ida’s brother. One speech only. He and his brothers are dim-witted, lumbering louts. They are fierce and warlike blockheads.

King Gama’s young daughter and Principal of the University. Powerful soprano lead. Noble, elegant, brave and rather serious bluestocking. Should be of commanding appearance and must have a regal presence. She requires faultless diction as well as a big singing voice. Only shows her true feelings at the end of the opera.

Professor of Abstract Science. A domineering, stern and spiteful battle-axe. A commanding, formidable, repressed and malevolent widow. Some excellent opportunities for comedy.

Professor of Humanities. Florian’s sister. Lovely role with some comedy. Young, dignified, gentle and sympathetic, though rather earnest at times.

Lady Blanche’s daughter. Soubrette role, with some delicious comedy. Young, very charming and vivacious character (unlike her mother).
